This is a Lobster cake was made it for my sister, Chelsie's bridal shower and is actually my practice cake...the 'real' one soon to be made. The bridal shower theme is a Lobster Fest... the bride and groom have a thing about lobsters because they mate for life which means they are each other's lobster.
And... here is how she made the cake:
I used a football shaped cake pan for the body, to give it the hump-back that lobsters have. I cut down the sides of it a little so that it would not look too much like a football (haha) and I made an additional 9x13 cake to use for the cut out of the claws and the tail. I used licorice for the legs and licorice cut length wise for the antler; added brown sugar for the sand. Turned out really neat. As far as the shower, it went great. My sister was SO shocked about the lobster theme. I had a couple of people say to me...'oh you found a lobster cake pan...how neat' . I, of course, quickly corrected them!
