Greeting
Costume Awards. Everyone's in costume so every guest
receives an award ribbon made with orange construction paper,
black crepe paper streamers and Halloween stickers. Write
on the ribbon a descriptive word about each guests' costume
(i.e., "Scariest," " Ballerina Fairy,"
"Funniest," "Great Pumpkin", etc.) With
a safety pin, pin it on through a punched hole at the top
of the award ribbon.
Make n' Create
Boo
Bags
Give each guest a flat white lunch bag to decorate
with Halloween stickers, stamps, stamp pads, stencils, markers,
and crayons. Suggest guests draw a spooky ghost or freaky
monster. Another idea is to make the white lunch bag into
"boo bags" by cutting out two circles for eyes and
an oval for a mouth. Then line the inside with black tissue
paper to complete the ghostly bag and prevent any goodies
from falling out. Make sure guest's names are written on each
bag. By the time the party is over, you can be sure it will
be full of treats made or accumulated by each guest.
Tootsie Roll Ghosts
Let children choose a favorite flavor Tootsie Roll
Pop and cover it with a white Kleenex tissue. Wrap the Kleenex
around the lollipop and fasten with a small rubber band at
the neck of the candy. Draw the ghost's eyes, nose and mouth
with black felt tip marker. Have guests place this ghostly
treat in their boo bag.
Shave Jack
Inflate and tie the end of an orange balloon for
each guest . With black permanent markers have children make
their own Jack-o'-lantern face on the balloon. Set balloon
in an empty 3 pound coffee can. Next cover Jack's face with
shaving cream. Now the fun begins as guests try to shave Jack
with a blade less razor without breaking the balloon!
Swinging Spiders
Scavenge the neighborhood or local parks for easy
to find oak apples attached to oak trees or lying on the ground
nearby. Oak apples are large round galls that are tannish
in color and are produced in nature naturally when a wasp
stings the tree resulting in a swelling of the tree tissue.
Give each guest one oak apple and small pieces of pipe cleaners
for legs. Children can easily stick the pipe cleaners into
the oak gall creating an instant spider. Draw eyes on with
a black felt tip marker. Attach a long piece of thin elastic
to the top of the spider with a push pin and voila, a Swinging
Spider --that kids love to have hanging around! No oak galls
in your neck of the woods, make spider bodies and heads
with black construction paper circles and glue.
