Roll-Out Cookie Dough
(See recipe below)
or Cookie Dough in the refrigerated
section of your grocery store.
Royal Icing
(used as 'glue')
Bite-Size Licorice Pieces
Black String Licorice
Eyes Hard Sugars
Heart Candies
Spice Drops
Tint cookie dough pink (rose).
Cut four cookies for each Luv Bug.
Bake and let cool completely.
Cut bite-size licorice in half and attach to bottom of each heart with Royal Icing to make legs.
For feet, attach heart candies to licorice legs.
Attach antennae to heart "head" in same manner, using string licorice and sugar eye shapes.

Let set.
Cut bite sized licorice into lots of thin pieces and attach one for the mouth.
Attach gum drop between each cookie with Royal Icing.
Attach heart candy to back of end cookie.
To serve, stand bug on legs.
Roll-Out Cookies
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 teaspoon baking powder
3 cups flour
Preheat oven to 375°.
In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar with an electric mixer.
Beat in eggs and vanilla.
Add baking powder and flour one cup at a time, mixing after each addition.
The dough will be very stiff; blend last flour in by hand.
Do not chill dough.
Divide dough into 2 balls.
On a floured surface, roll each ball in a circle approximately 12" in diameter and 1/8" thick.
Dip cutters in confectioner's sugar before each use.
Bake cookies on un-greased cookie sheet on middle rack of oven for 8-12 minutes, or until cookies are lightly browned.
Let cool completely.
