Hearts of Calzones
These are absolutely wonderful
for a Valentine's
lunch, dinner, picnic or buffet
Depending on the size of the heart cookie cutter,
these can be served as an entrée or appetizer.

Ingredients:
1 package Hot Roll Mix
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 lb. Italian sausage (sweet or hot), crumbled
1-1/2 cups thinly sliced white fresh mushrooms
3 cloves garlic, chopped
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese or mixed shredded provolone and mozzarella
5 tablespoons pizza sauce (at your grocery store)
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon basil
1/2 to 1/4 teaspoon salt
Pepper to taste
1 egg
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Prepare hot roll mix according to package directions until you get to the roll shaping instructions.
. Meanwhile, heat olive oil in frying pan.
Sauté garlic, sausage and mushrooms until sausage is no longer pink.
Stir in cheese, pizza sauce and seasonings.
Divide dough in half.
Roll 1/4" thick and it is important to let the dough rest 15 minutes before cutting.
Cut 3 Giant Hearts from each half.
Brush edges with water.
Place 3/4 cup filling in center.
Top each with heart.
Seal edges by pressing with fork.
Place on cookie sheet.
Brush top with egg wash.
With remaining dough cut out stems and hearts using the smallest cutter.
Place on top of calzone.
Brush with egg wash.
Let rise 20 minutes.
Bake 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.
YIELD: Makes 3 calzones.
