Recycle AOL CD's

Ideas On How To Recycle All Those AOL/Internet CD's

Break them into small pieces (be careful if you have kids do this, they do tend to splinter, or maybe you could do this for them first.)
Then take a plain clock or picture frame (I've done both) and glue the pieces around the edge in a mish-mosh mosaic kind of way. Be sure to glue the blank side up. When you're done, the edges have a pseudo mirrored effect. I use smaller pieces on smaller frames and clocks, and larger pieces on larger ones. It's a pretty cool effect, and I had actually started doing it as a way to cover "mistakes" in some of the wood frames that I make. (corners not matching perfectly, etc.)

Another friend of mine actually used some to decorate a table in her game room. She took the CD's - placed them print side down, and laid them on an old table. Then filled in spaces around with concert ticket stubs, cut out music notes and pictures of her favorite album covers, etc. She then shellacked over the entire thing for a complete "musical" theme. It turned out so cute that she wished she had used a longer table. :)

I've also heard someone makes Christmas ornaments out of them to sell on the web...but I'm not sure what this entails.

I'm sure there are hundreds of things you can do with them. :)

Those AOL & other un-needed CD's make good targets - take 'em out in the back yard & shoot them. they glide nicely & can be used for wingshot practice, if you've got a shotgun.

Glue a picture in the middle of the shiny side, let the kids decorate with glue, stickers, sequins, etc, and slap a magnet on the back. They make great decorative fridge magnets! I have about 10 of them on mine!!!!

I haven't tried it, but have heard of making a mobile from the CDs, or a wind chime. They don't work too well as coasters since the moisture from drinks slides right off! LOL

My readers love to recycle- they posted a link to a site that has crafts you can make out of CDs- I'll have to dig it up, it's hilarious! Also- you could put felt on the back of the CDs and make some cool looking coasters. That was my husband's idea, and that's what we use on our computer desks to hold our drinks. I'm so proud of him!

My readers paint 'em yellow and coat 'em with Tanglefoot to make yellow sticky traps for the bugs in their garden.
