Ketchup - Let's Make Ketchup

Posted

Ketchup.....
Let's Make....
KETCHUP

I have never made ketchup and I am a grandmother, never too late to try.
This turned out to be a fun recipe, great for kids and grandchildren with parent's help.
If your children have friends help them, can you imagine them telling their parents
they made.... KETCHUP?

How fun is that?

This would be a great activity for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts,
Brownies, Cub Scouts, Campfire Girls, YMCA and other youth groups, too.

As a side note, think about baking frozen french fries just before starting to get all the ingredients before making the ketchup so everyone can taste it and eat some as soon as it is made.  I kid you not, once all the ingredients are in the blender, it only takes a total of 10 seconds, yep seconds.... It will take longer to eat the french fries with ketchup than to actually make the ketchup.

Read the recipe out loud and let the kids get all the ingredients,
measuring spoons, spatula and blender (or food processor).

Ingredients:
1 can tomato puree (15-oz.)
2 talespoons vinegar
3 tablespoons Wondra quick-mixing flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon onion powder
1\4 teaspoon white pepper (not black, white fine grind)
1/4 teaspoon celery salt
1/16 teaspoon grond cloves
1/ teaspoon ground cinnaon
1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper or chili powder (yes, it is necessary)
5 drops red food oloring

Directions:
Put tomato puree into blender or food processor and add vinegar, flour, sugar, onion powder, white pepper, celery salt, cloves, cinnamon, red pepper and food coloring.

Turn on blender or food processor for abou 5 seconds... only seconds, really.
Use spatula to scape sides of blender or food processor bowl and turn on for another 5 seconds.

That's it, ketchup is done.

ENJOY....
