Jar Gifts for Muggles!

These are frugal, good tasting and easy gifts to make from
our favorite wizards and magicians cauldrons... ala Harry Potter style!

Jar gifts are glass jars with dry ingredients. A recipe card is attached.
Jar lids can be decorated by adding a circle of fabric (average about 9 inches diameter) and secured with a rubber band around the jar neck. Add ribbons, raffia or holiday ornaments on the lid or around the neck of the jar. Attach recipe card with wire or ribbon.

Fat Lady's
Cinnamon-Brown Sugar Pancake Mix
(She is in the potrait guarding the entrance of Gryffindor Tower)

These pancakes are bursting with brown sugar and cinnamon
and the aroma as the pancakes cook is simply wonderful.

Ingredients:
3 cups flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
3 tablespoons baking powder
1-1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt

Directions:
Sift all the ingredients together into a container and continue mixing until well blended. Pour into a jar.

Card:
Cinnamon-Brown Sugar Pancakes:
Beat one egg in a medium bowl and add 3/4 cup milk and 3 tablespoons vegetable oil. Add 1-1/4 cup of mix until moistened. The batter will still be lumpy -- do not over mix. Cook on a hot, lightly greased pancake griddle over medium heat.

Madam Hootch's Crazeee Cake
(She is the Quidditch Instructor)

Ingredients
2 cups flour
2/3 cup cocoa powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1-1/3 cups sugar

Directions:
In a large bowl, combine all ingredients and put into a one-quart canning jar.

Card:
Crazeee Cake
Using a 9x13 cake pan, pour contents of jar into it. Add 3/4 cup vegetable oil, 2 teaspoons white vinegar, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 2 cups water. Use a wire whisk or fork to blend thoroughly. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 35 minutes.
Cool cake completely before frosting or sprinkling with powdered (confectioners) sugar.

Hermione Granger's Love Potion Soup
(She is the smart, know-it-all student at Hogwarts and is a
a good friend of Harry and Ron. She has bushy brown hair, large front teeth and a loud, rather bossy voice. Her parents are muggle dentists.)

Ingredients
2 packets of Lipton Onio Soup (1 box)
1/2 cup dried split peas
1/2 cup alphabet pasta
1/2 cup shell pasta
1/2 cup small colored pasta
1/4 cups dried lentils

Directions
Combine all the above ingredients in a bag and shake well to mix.
Pour into a jar.

Card
In a large kettle, add 7 cups of cold water, 1/2 pound of uncooked hamburger and dry mix. Stir to blend. Bring to a slow boil and immediately reduce temperature to simmer (low temperature) until the pasta is cooked.

Professor Albus Dumbledore's Magic Sand Art Cookies
(He is the Headmaster at Hogwart's, is widely regarded as the
finest wizard of his generation and is the only wizard feared by
Lord Voldemort. He has blue eyes, is tall with a thin body, several feet of
long silver hair, half-moon spectacles, a crooked nose and
wears a long purple cloak.

Ingredients
5/8 cup all purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup all purpose flour (additional)
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
2/3 cup white granulated sugar
1/2 cup Nestle' semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup Nestle' vanilla (white chocolate) baking chips
1/2 cup walnuts

Directions
Mix 5/8 cup of flour with the salt. Layer ingredients into a wide mouth quart jar in the following order to create a sand art effect:
Flour/salt mixture
Cocoa powder
Flour
Brown sugar
White sugar
Chocolate chips
Vanilla chips
Walnuts

Card
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease one 9x9 inch square baking pan.
Pour the contents of the jar into a large bowl nd mix well. Stin in 1 teaspoon vanilla, 2/3 cup vegetable oil and 3 eggs. Beat until just combined (do NOT over mix). Pour the batter into the baking pan and bake for 25 to 30 minutes.

Phyllida Spore and Professor Sprout's
Rocky Road Crispeee Balls
(Ms. Spore is the author of One Thousand Magical Herbs and
Professor Sprout is a herbology teacher and witch)

Ingredients
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1-1/4 cup Rice Krispies cereal
1 cup mini marshmallows
1-1/4 cup Nestle' chocolate chips

Directions
Place the first four ingredients into a wide mouth jar. Put chocolate chips into a ziplock or plastic bag and push into the jar to make it fit when you put the lid on tight.

Card
Remove bag of chocolate chips and place into a small pan along with a 1/2 stick of butter. Melt over medium heat, stirring constantly. Empty dry ingredients into a bowl and stir to mix. Add melted chocolate chips and stir to coat well. Roll into balls and place on wax papert.
Allow several hours to firm up.

Rubeus Hagrid's Famous White Hot Chocolate
(He is 'twice as tall, five times as wide as a normal man. He has long, bushy black hair, hands the size of garbage can lids; feet like baby dolphins." After being falsely accused of opening the Chamber of Secrets, as a student, Hagrid was expelled from Hogwarts. Professor Dumbledore hired him as Keeper of the Keys and Grounds at the school. He rescued Harry from his home and delivered him to the Dursleys after Harry's parents were killed.

Ingredients
1 teaspoon vanilla powder
1 teaspoon dried orange peel
1/2 cup Nestle' white chocolate baking chips

Directions
Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl and blend well.
Place in a jar and seal tight.

Card
To make two servings:
In a small pot, heat 1-1/2 cups milk on medium heat just until the bubbles begin to form around the edge of the milk. Add 1/4 cup of the mix and using a wire whisk, blend until melted. Continue to whish until the mixture is hot, but not boiling. Pour into mugs. Add whipped cream or marshmallows, if desired.

Hedwig Droppings
(He is Harry's owl)

Ingredients
Chocolate Covered Raisins or Chocolate Malted Ball Candy
Small plastic bag
Ribbon

Directions
Place a ut a handful of chocolate covered raisins or malted candy balls
inside plastic lunch bag. Tie with ribbon.
