Jam.....
Let's Make.... JAM
I have made Jam but never with my grandchilder and it was never too late to try.
This turned out to be a fun recipe, great for kids and grandchildren with parent's help.
If your children have friends help them, can you imagine them telling their parents
they made.... Jam?
How fun is that?
This would be a great activity for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts,
Brownies, Cub Scouts, Campfire Girls, YMCA and other youth groups, too.
Read the recipe out loud and let the kids get all the ingredients,
measuring spoons, etc.
Ingredients:
1 pound fresh strawberries (do not use frozen)
1 pound fresh or frozen boysenberries or raspberries, thawed
4 cups white sugar
1.75 ounce box Sure-Jell (purchase in grocery stores, usually in the baking section)
1-1/2 teaspoons butter, sliced
Directions:
Wash strawberries and remove their stems. Slice strawberries.
Place slices strawberries and other berries (boysenberries or raspberries) into a large bowl.
Mash the berries (use a potato masher or fork).
Pour sugar into a separate bowl. Masure 1/4 up sugar into a smaller bowl and add the Sure-Jell powder to the sugar, blending well.
Add sliced butter to the berry mixture and stir well.
Pour the smashed berries mixture into a frying pan and begin cooking on medium heat. Bring the berry mixture to a full rolling boil. Boiling must continue and stir constantly while quickly stiring in the remainder of the white sugar, for a few minutes. Turn the heat off.
Safely pour or spoon the berry mixtures, now jam, into jars and screw on tops tightly. Add labels.
The jam will keep for one month in the refrigerator.
That's it, Jam is done.
ENJOY....
