This Hot Wheels Party is sure to be a hit with the little car fans in your life!
Race on over to our house for a great time!

Invitations:
Buy or make your own invitations.
Make a square out of white cardstock.
Put on a black and white checkered border and red lettering.
Place car stickers on the corners.

Write:
Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines.
Put the pedal to the metal and shift into high gear.
(Name) has just zoomed through another year.
Take a spin around the track at (last name)'s Raceway and do a victory lap for (name)'s (age) birthday.
Please join the race (date/time).
To qualify, please contact promoter at (phone number).

Or

Make an invitation in the shape of a tire using black cardstock or construction paper.
Write your party info around the tire beginning
in the middle and working your way out.

Decorations:
Use plastic orange cones to line up your driveway.

Make a big banner that reads, "Welcome Race Fans".

Use black and white checkered penant flag garlands, and flags.

Use black and white streamers. Twist together and attach to wall.

Use black and white checkered table covers. Or use plain white paper ones and stamp one race cars, flags, etc.

Make black and white checkered placemats with scrapbook paper. "Laminate" using clear contact paper. Or use red vinyl placemats.

Use wood cut outs of cars, paint and write the guests name on it and use for a place card.

Make traffic light centerpieces using a shoe box. Wrap the box in colored paper. Cut out circles from fun foam; red, yellow, and
green. Glue onto the box.

Tie clusters of balloons to big plastic cars.

Serve snacks in a plastic racing helmet (Oriental Trading Company).

Cake:

2 baked 9" round cakes
3 cups white icing
1 to 2 cups finely crushed chocolate cookie crumbs
1 to 2 cups green sprinkles
White Good & Plenty candies
Checkered paper or ribbon
2 toothpicks and tape
New toy cars, washed with soap and water

Step 1:
Cut a small semicircular notch from one cake, then position the cakes as shown and cover them with the white icing.

Step 2:
Place a small bowl in the center of each cake and sprinkle cookie crumbs around it to create the track.

Step 3:
Remove the bowls and sprinkle sprinkles onto each icing circle, then press the remaining sprinkles onto the sides of the cake for grass.

Step 4:
Lay a white Good & Plenty dotted line along the track and use a pastry bag to pipe a white icing border around the edge of the cake.

Step 5:
Create racing flags by taping small squares of the paper or ribbon to the toothpicks and place them on the track along with the race cars.

Food and Snacks:
Sugar cookies shaped like cars. The kids can decorate these for activity as well.

Make rice krispie treats with m&m's inserted in the front to make a traffic light.

Make cookies into a rectangle.
Push a wooden pop stick 1/2 way into a short side of each rectangle.
Press red, yellow and green m&m's into each rectangle for lights.

Pit Stop Punch-beverage of your choice.

Pin "wheel" sandwiches.

Hot dogs with carrots for wheels.

Goodie Bags and Prizes:
Use mini tin lunch boxes with race cars on them. You can find these in the automotive section at Target.
Give out Hot Wheels cars, of course, mini playsets, any type of wheeled vehicle, stickers, tatoos, gummi race car candies, car shaped chocolates, Hot Wheels fruit snacks.

Games and Activities:
Toss bean bags into a tire for a bean bag toss game.

Pin the wheel on the car.

Hot Wheel hot potato. Pass around a car until the music stops.

Put out those play rugs with the streets on them and a bucket full of cars and let the kids play.
If you don't have a rug, Oriental Trading Company has some felt ones.

Paint little wooden cars. These serve as a take home favor.

Make shoe box race cars. Set out things the kids can use to paint and decorate their "cars". Have a parade and give out ribbons or medal necklaces for different catagories.

Make license plates from fun foam. Buy adhesive back foam letters for the kids to personalize their plates. Also serves as another take home favor.
