Cookie
Decorating 101
Simple technique for
easier decorating that is also very pretty!
Prepare your favorite
sugar cookie recipe or use 1 package of prepared Sugar Cookie Dough found in the
refrigerated section of the grocery store.
Sprinkle Confectioner's Sugar
(powdered sugar -- if making chocolate cookies, sprinkle with cocoa powder) on
flat surface and roll the cookie dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
Bake
according to your recipe or the manufacturer's instructions. When baking is
finished, use a spatula to gently lift the cookies from the cookie sheet and
place on a wire rack to completely cool. It is important cookies be completely
cooled to avoid any moisture on the bottom.
Separate 3 eggs -- you'll
need the egg whites only. (Save yolks for a breakfast omelet...). Place egg
whites in a bowl and beat with an electric mixer on medium speed. Gently add one
box of powdered sugar (16 ounces), a little at a time (careful you don't end up
wearing it...) and continue to mix until all the powdered sugar and egg whites
are smooth.
Divide the white frosting into some small bowls to tint with
food coloring as desired. Place the frosting into decorator piping bags or
simply use small Ziplock type bags and snip off a small corner... no special
cake decorating tips necessary for this project!
Decorate the cookies as
desired and let set for several hours before adding Harry Potter Cake
Pics.
Cut off the white plastic inserts so that only the colored slick
Harry Potter cake pic remains. Using a dab of frosting (acts as the glue),
attach one cake pic to each cookie. Guests simply remove the cake pic photo and
eat the cookie. Using a damp cloth, clean off the cake pic to take home as a
party favor or use again on another cookie.
As a side note, the photo of
the Harry Potter Cake Pics are shown on cupcakes -- these have been frosted with
white icing and then sprayed using a fabulous product -- shake the can, remove
the cap, aim and spray for beautiful colored frosting -- adding a little or a
lot to get the perfect color you desired. It is called SPRAY COLOR MIST and comes in great
colors
