One or two days in advance, make poinsettia flowers.

Already Made Poinsettias Edible Hard Sugar Shapes
(this are smaller than called for in the instructions but can be clustered and look great)

Make, bake and cool your favorite cake recipe.
To make your own Poinsettias:
Line lily nail with aluminum foil squares.
Use royal icing and decorating tip 352 to pipe 6 pull-out petals.
Add second layer of petals alternating between first layer.
Add decorating tip 2 dot stamens.
Make extras to allow for breakage and let dry.
If using already made Poinsettia sugar shapes:
Position sugar shapes on cake with a dot of frosting on the back of each sugar to hold in place.
Ice sides and background area of cake smooth.
Use small plastic ruler to score candle lines.
Outline candles with decorating tip 4 and cover with decorating tip 16 stars.
Pipe decorating tip 2 string candle wick.
Add decorating tip 32 spatula-striped shell for flame.
Use decorating tip 7 to pipe in melting effect of candles.
Add decorating tip 352 pull-out leaves at cake bottom; position poinsettias.
Add decorating tip 18 star bottom border.
