Dessert Party for Any Day or the Holiday's
This is probably the most feminine form of entertaining.  There are a dozen excuses to have a dessert party: a club meeting in the home, an afternoon of bridge, a shower for the bride or mommy-to-be, holiday get-togethers, the introduction of a newcomer in the neighborhood to your friends.  It's a happy sort of affair, usually given in the afternoon, but occasionally late in the evening. Take A Peek at this fun party idea and recipes!

Holiday Manners
For a parent, holiday entertaining comes with the hopes that the children will make a good impression on our guests. A holiday meal however, isn't the time to give your child a manners 101 class. If you are concerned about how your children are likely to behave at the table, start talking about dinner manners well in advance of the holiday. Once the special day arrives, you can focus on making memories and enjoying your family and guests rather than manners and making sure everyone eats all of their vegetables. Holiday's Buffet Style
Buffet service fits perfectly into the relaxed, informal pattern of busy lives. If you have limited dining space, or if you are a do-it-yourself hostess, buffet service permits you to entertain with more ease than any other type of service, and just as graciously and pleasantly. Talk Like a Pilgrim for Thanksgiving
by Susan Dunn
W hat a great chance for a multicultural exercise with your children. The Pilgrims spoke English, but it was a different English! They spoke 17th century English.

We've added lots of new words since then. Ask your child if they can think of some. Hints: What's new these days? Cell phone? DVDs? Television? Source: Plimoth.org.

1. Instead of Hi, how are you? say Good morrow, How now? How do you fare? or What cheer?

Party & Cake Tips - ThePartyWorks.com

Coloring Black Icing
Here is some good advice when working with black icing colors.

I always add Hersey's Cocoa powder to any icing before going black. You can not get a ture shade of black from a white icing. This may answer that question of black icing colors being ashy or charcoal.

Try working with paste color. Example, Wilton and CK (Country Kitchen) are two companies that make excellent products for coloring icing.

These colors will not change the consistence of your icing. They are also designed to be more concentrated. When working with rolled fondant, liquid food color will make the fondant very sticky and hard to work with. When working with royal icing liquid food color will thin the icing and your designs will not keep their shape.

I have found working with intense buttercream icing colors like black or vibrant colors like reds, blues, greens, etc. they do stain people's mouths. Rolled fondant tends to not stain when they eat it. This may be for two reasons. First, most people don't eat rolled fondant. They simply peel it off and there is white buttercream under the fondant. The second reason is fondant holds the color in the icing. It may be the gelatin in the fondant that causes this. You can eat a slice or two of cake covered in the black fondant and not end up with a colored mouth.

Hope these tips will help when it comes time to color your icing black.
