Talking mask decoration

Hi as a novice to cake decorating, does anyone have any tips on how to make theatrical mask shaped 3D decorations for a wedding cake (my fiance runs a drama group)? My mum is making and icing the actual cake but I have to make the icing design to go on top! So far, my ideas include lining a plastic mask with Mexican paste, removing the mould and then painting the dry masks with silver and gold lustre. Was going to attach ribbons with edible glue...do you think this will work or does anyone have any better ideas? Many thanks!

You can use fondant and shape it over the mask or cut out your own mask. You can lay the fondant cutout shape over a bowl and let it harden to give it it's curve. You can use the luster dust to paint the fondant too. The fondant is like a clay but edible. It comes in white or various colors. I like the idea of laying it over a mask for the shape...

Post a photo of your finished product we would love to see it.

Do either of you have a photo? Did you try making the mask?
